Jay Lazerwitz

Jay Lazerwitz’s artwork is deeply influenced by his passion for architecture, ecology, and the natural environment. His work serves as a confluence of natural and architectonic forms, with the built environment at the center of his creative exploration.

He weaves together elemental references to structure and urban space, intermingling historical precedents, figure-ground studies of cities, miniature habitations, and imagined places. These elements come to life through sculptures and paintings that depict constructed dwellings and fantastical worlds.

Lazerwitz has worked with encaustic painting for over 25 years, and in 2014, he expanded his practice to include wood carving and printmaking. His wood sculptures, influenced by earlier paintings, in turn inspire new painted works—continuing a cyclical dialogue between mediums.

His recent work reflects a deep preoccupation with seasonal cycles, forestry, and climatic shifts, all held within an undercurrent of hope and the dreaming of new paradigms. Each piece marks a step in the evolving rhythm of his creative and inner life.
